Maximize Your Storage Space with These 3 Kitchen Corner Solutions

Kitchen corner cabinets are the Bermuda Triangle of your kitchen. Over time, items you place at the front of the cabinet slowly make their way into the back, never to be seen again.

Often one of the trickiest areas in the kitchen to figure out, corner cabinets either go underused or turn into a virtual Neverland of odds and ends. Thankfully, cabinet manufacturers have found creative and innovative ways to make use of the space. Below are three of our favourites.

The LeMans II System

Ideal for blind corners, the LeMans pullout systems help you keep items organized. This means no more getting on your hands and knees to access the back of the cabinet.

Rondo Cleaning and Recycling Centre

Underneath a corner sink doesn't have to be a lost space! And a corner recycling unit is a great way to keep your wasting sorting needs out of the way.

Pie-cut Lazy Susan

A deep lazy susan can keep your pantry items organized and prevent items from falling off into the depths of your cabinet.

In this revolutionary design from Cornerstone, the patented die-cast aluminum bearing makes this unique wood super susan the absolute workhorse of the industry.

Designed for pots, pans and kitchen appliances, this wood susan also works great for dry goods, bulk storage or convenience items.

A Design That Helps Keep the Party in the Kitchen

Design by Monarch Kitchen & Bath Centre

A few weeks ago, we discussed what was on the "new kitchen wish list" of designer Kevin Samson's clients and why they decided to remodel.

Their biggest complaint was the lack of adequate food preparation counter space, and the inability for two people to work in the kitchen at the same time.

"Comfortably socializing with family and friends in the kitchen was also high on their wish list," says Kevin. "There was already a table and chairs in the room, but it left the cooks feeling too far removed from the fun."

"To solve the issue, we removed the table altogether. The design now incorporates a spacious countertop eating area as an extension of the peninsula. The area comfortably seats five to six, and everyone can now be a part of the fun. For larger groups, the formal dining room is steps from the kitchen."

As everyone knows, the party always ends up in the kitchen!

4 Ways to Make Your Cottage Kitchen Design More Efficient

Even though we've seen more cold and snow this spring than we have all winter, summer fun at the cottage really is just a few months away. In fact, it won’t be long until you open the cottage for another season of relaxation and good times with friends and family.

Is your cottage kitchen up for all that entertaining?
If you’re thinking of re-designing your cottage kitchen before the summertime fun begins, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind.

Open Concept Works Best
If visiting friends and family are helping with meal preparation, a small kitchen can seem even smaller when there are six hands trying to prep a meal for hungry guests. An open concept kitchen design will not only feel bigger, but it can become a bigger kitchen by incorporating eating areas into its space.

Lots of Drawers
In order to act as an effective multi-functioning space, the cottage should have an allocated storage spot for everything. And what better way to organize your expanding and unmatched containers than in a nice deep drawer? Maybe even an easy-to-reach drawer to store the kid-friendly plates so your little helpers can help set the table!

Quick Cleanup Means More Time to Relax
Life at the cottage is about fun, relaxation and enjoying the company of others -- it's not somewhere you need to keep spotless 24/7. When selecting the finishes for your kitchen cabinets, floors and counter tops, remember to select surfaces that are easy to clean.

A Wet Bar Where You Need It
If you like to kick back, relax and enjoy some drinks on the deck, consider keeping a wet bar with a small fridge outside of the kitchen space to avoid congestion in the kitchen at meal times. It will draw those in need of refreshment away from the workspace, and ensure a safe and uncluttered prep area.
